Lalunia, what exactly is it — and who's behind it?

From Poland to Provence, and across the world – this is who I am and why I created Lalunia.

Lalunia — a word from afar

Before it was a shop, Lalunia was a word. A nickname. My dad always called me "lalunia" — which means "doll" in Polish. He's not here today, and maybe that's why this sweet word means so much. Giving this name to my shop is a way to keep him present in what I'm building.

When it was time to name my project, there wasn't much thought. It was obvious. Lalunia was me when I was little. Then Lalunia became my daughter. And today, it's also the shop I created for all families looking for sweetness in their daily lives.

A life built between two countries, then across the world

I grew up in Poland. Then, at the beginning of my adult life, I came to France for my studies. A new country, a new language to tame, and something that already resembled a desire to see what else was out there.

It was then that my partner and I made a big decision: New Caledonia. The other side of the world, literally. We built our lives there, our habits, our landmarks. New Caledonia became our second home — a place we always carry with us.

These past few years, I've worked as a shop manager. And if I had to remember just one thing from that journey, it's this: I have a real passion for products. For what is well-made, thoughtful, beautiful. For brands that have a story, values, a way of working that respects people and the planet. My goal is to find the product that will last over time rather than one that breaks after three weeks. What I did for the shops I worked for, I had long wanted to do for myself.

But I didn't dare. This leap into the unknown, this idea of carrying everything myself... I kept putting it off. And then life decided for me.

The pregnancy that changed everything

When I became pregnant, I found myself in the exact same situation as all parents and relatives who don't know what to buy. I spent hours searching. Hours comparing. Reading contradictory reviews. Coming across products that all looked alike, that lacked true identity, and about which I didn't know if they were really good for baby.

I also realized something that made me smile a little: before becoming a mother, I had probably never given the right birth gift. Like many people, I would offer what looked nice in the window, without really knowing if it was suitable for the child's age, if it was useful, if the parents really needed it.

This disconnect between "I want to offer something beautiful and useful" and "I absolutely don't know what to choose" is the problem Lalunia was born to solve.

Provence as a new beginning

Arriving in Provence, something settled within me. An obvious truth. It was time. Time to create Lalunia. To finally build the shop I would have wanted as a customer, as a mother, as a loved one looking for a beautiful birth gift.

Today, every order is carefully prepared here, from Provence. No large logistics warehouse. Just me, my choices, and the desire for each package to arrive like a small gift.

Baby, child, home — I didn't want to choose

When I thought about Lalunia, I had one conviction: I didn't want to make a shop just for babies, or just for home decor. Because I like both equally. And because families are not made up only of infants.

What always attracted me to concept stores is precisely that: the idea that you can enter with one intention and leave with something you didn't expect but that perfectly suits you. A mother looking for a toy for her child can also stumble upon a candle for her table. Grandparents who came to find a birth gift can discover something for their own home.
